Performance

Gwent Police Authority is responsible for maintaining an efficient and effective police service for the communities of Gwent, and carries out this duty by monitoring and scrutinising the performance levels within Gwent Police - in other words, making sure the force is doing its job effectively.

Members scrutinise and challenge force performance against the requirements of the Local Policing Plan which contains national as well as locally set objectives and targets.  Overall performance monitoring areas include:

  • Local Crime and Policing - includes all crime types;
  • Anti-Social Behaviour - including reduction of incidents and their impact on the public in Gwent;
  • Protection from Serious Harm - including serious violence, critical incidents, and protecting vulnerable people;
  • Value for Money and Productivity - involves delivering an economic, sustainable and high-quality police service;
  • Confidence and Satisfaction - of victims and police service users ;
  • Performance Improvement - including the Policing Pledge and recruitment of under-represented groups.

Each Police Authority Committee monitors a set of performance objectives in its own specific area and our Lead Members are assigned to performance areas relating to their particular expertise or skills.
