Engagement

Community engagement provides people with opportunities to have a greater say in how services are provided to them.  It allows individuals an opportunity to become more actively involved in decision-making relating to local service provision.

For Gwent Police Authority and Gwent Police, community engagement is about involving the community in developing the decisions that are made in relation to the policing services we provide for them.

The policing priorities for Gwent are set out in the Local Policing Plan.  This plan is informed by a variety of information sources, which include community engagement findings.

To ensure ongoing improvement in the policing service we provide, all engagement activity is monitored for effectiveness and progress via an internal strategic group, the Gwent Engagement Forum.  This group is responsible for the progress of an action plan that has been devised to support the requirements of the Community Engagement Strategy.

In addition, further guidance on engagement has been provided to police authority Members through the Neighbourhood Engagement Protocol, the Partnership Protocol, and The Role of Police Authority Members on Community Safety Partnerships document.
