Engagement and Consultation
Gwent Police Authority has a duty to consult the public on a number of issues, including priorities for the policing plan and customer satisfaction. Although we are required to consult the public on an ever-increasing basis, we do not do so just because we have to.
We aim to promote and encourage public participation to inform decisions about local policing through engagement, consulting and establishing a dialogue with our stakeholders (the public, businesses and our own staff). Engagement with our diverse communities is essential if we are to meet their needs and expectations.
We recognise that we must continually strive to improve the ways in which we engage and consult with our communities and we work alongside the Gwent Police force through the joint Community Engagement Strategy to involve the community in the way that local policing services are delivered.
Our strategy is based on five key principles supported by a set of minimum Engagement Standards we will comply with.
The police authority's Service Delivery Committee is responsible for monitoring and reviewing consultation and engagement matters for both the police authority and the police force.
